少年初不以为意，仍每日弈棋不辍。一日，遇一长者，长者见其专注棋局，遂问曰：“汝可知棋中之道？”少年答曰：“棋者，以智取胜也。”长者摇头曰：“非也。棋之道，在于修身养性，明志笃行。汝若仅以胜负为念，未免失其本心。”

Once upon a time, there was a young man who loved playing chess very much. He spent all his time on it, neglecting sleep and meals. The people in the village admired his talent and thought he was exceptional. However, his parents were worried about him, saying, "Chess is indeed interesting, but it is not the foundation for one's life. If you are obsessed with it, you may neglect your studies and future."

The young man did not take it seriously at first and continued to play chess every day. One day, he met an old man. Seeing him fully absorbed in the game, the old man asked, "Do you know the essence of chess?" The young man replied, "Chess is about winning through wisdom." The old man shook his head and said, "No. The essence of chess lies in self-cultivation and determination. If you only focus on winning or losing, you will lose its true meaning."

Hearing this, the young man was deeply moved and decided to change himself, giving up chess and turning to study. From then on, he devoted himself entirely to learning. After several years, he made great progress in his studies and eventually became a pillar of society.
